CENTRAL GEORGIA EMPOWERMENT FUND

A Black Giving Circle
Our Mission

The Central Georgia Empowerment Fund (CGEF) is a giving circle with the mission of creating sustainable change throughout the Central Georgia in African American communities by leveraging the philanthropic efforts of donors and celebrating African American philanthropy.

In addition, CGEF aims to cultivate and identify charitable giving within the African American community, to build capacity and financial sustainability of nonprofits that serve the African American community, and address the most pressing needs facing the African American community in order to improve the entire Central Georgia region.

ABOUT US

The Central Georgia Empowerment Fund (CGEF) is a giving circle supporting the inclusion of black leadership and non-profits serving the black community. In 2019, The Griffith Family Foundation created this endowed fund with a lead gift of $250,000 over five years. Its aim is to improve the quality of life for the African American communities by enhancing sustainability, creating opportunities for an increased political imagination, and fostering self-sufficiency in individuals that have been long marginalized and excluded in many ways from wealth building. The CGEF will unite and inspire African Americans’ involvement in philanthropy following the long-standing tradition within the Black community to uplift and empower others.

HOW It Works

  • Everyone is welcome to participate in this collective effort to support Central Georgia’s Black communities and uplift our entire region.
  • Individual and endowed funds are combined and work together to distribute grants to nonprofits, community organizations, and faith-based organizations for non-sectarian purposes.
  • The fund benefits a variety of areas including civic, economic, cultural, educational, religious and human service initiatives.
  • As the fund grows, so does its potential to aid programs that are important to this community.
  • The Empowerment Fund will leverage our collective resources to encourage effective philanthropy and enhance community service within the Black communities in Central Georgia.
